Goin’ camping

18 May

And, we’re off!  Well, eventually, we’ll be off.  We’re going camping this weekend down at Big Sur along the California coast south of Monterey, California.  It’s only a couple of hours from here but we’ve never gone camping there before.  We have family coming up from Southern California that we’re meeting there.   Greg’s sister and her boys are meeting us there.  His parents will come down for the day on Saturday.  We are going to have so much fun!bigsur.jpg
We’ll be camping in that big loop area.  There is a river there.  It’s hilly country nearby and we’re very close to the coast as well.  Big Sur is an amazingly beautiful area.  It’s hard to see anything on the ground because all those trees you see are Redwoods and therefore quite big!

Big Sur is home to some of the released California Condors.  In particular, it is where they discovered a nest back in March.  Recently, the egg hatched and experts checked the chick and vaccinated it against West Nile Virus.  How cool is THAT job?  This is the first Condor born in the wild in Big Sur in 100 years. {click}  Wow!  I truly hope that I’ll see a condor while we’re there although it’s a big area.  They are a huge, huge bird.

Here is some information on these amazing creatures! {click}.  Info on the new chick and his parents {click}.

More likely though, I’ll just have a relaxing weekend and see a lot of the same birds I’d normally see at home!  Whatever, no worries, we’ll be camping and having a good old time.

Oh, it will be Ruby’s first camping trip with us.  We can’t wait!

HAVE FUN! God, I’m jealous. I’ve never been to Big Sur. I saw California Condors at the Grand Canyon 2 summers ago, and they were just amazing.
