The heat was the story this week. Starting on Tuesday, it got hot. Where I work in Watsonville, it was cool and comfortable but as I would drive home it would get hotter and hotter and I’d get grumpier and grumpier. I do not function well in hot weather. It was really hot on the 4th of July. Despite lots of shade and the close proximity of the pool, I ended up spending most of the day inside in the air conditioning. It was a late night though as we waited for the traffic to die down before heading home. The next night, we took the kids to a late movie to see Ratatoulle (or however you spell it — my spell checker wants it to be Grateful for some odd reason). Very funny movie but also late night. Last night, it was much, much cooler. I ended up going to bed at the same time as the kids. I got about 10 hours of sleep and that was awesome for me. I needed it.
Here are a few more pictures of my week . . .
Grosbeaks like Zick Dough!
My New Rose — I wish I knew what it was!
Contented was the Cat — although to be honest, I think she was just closing her eyes and hoping we’d get the hell away from her!
I’ve been thinking about you Liza, reading about the triple digit heat out there. Stay cool. The long sleep must have been good for you with the hectic pace you’ve been keeping.
Cute cat. Is he yours?
I’m glad the temps cooled down for you. I don’t do well in the heat, so I totally empathize with you. It’s so good that you were able to sleep for as long as you did. Sleep is the time the body takes to renew. I hope it stays cool for you, Liza. It seems that your commute to Watsonville should be winding down soon. Good.
I thought of you during that horrible heat wave there. I don’t do well in heat, like you. It’s hot and dry here as well and I’ve been napping whenever I can and getting to bed at a decent time.
You are still having cool birds at your feeders and I’m happy for you! My birds are hot and I don’t see many of them after the morning hours.
I think that cat photo is one of my favorites! We all need to be more like cats – close our eyes whenever we feel like it! Right?
Hang in there, Liza. Stay inside when you need to.
Thankfully, the heatwave is over — at least this close to the coast. We had a high of like 85 tonight. It’s lovely here at home tonight. Yay! The cat is not my cat — I’m terribly allergic to cats so I can only have outdoor cats and I’m not in favor of that for many reasons. Thanks for all the good thoughts, everyone. We did not get into triple digits here — we were just (just!) in the high 90’s. Still, it’s not humid here for the most part so it wasn’t as bad as it could be. For me, though, anything over 85 is misery. I start shutting down. My kids do too — especially Ruthie. She was NOT a happy camper!
Our temps have settled down a bit… now in the high 80’s-low 90’s at least, but still reeeeeaaaally dry. Will have to try some Zick dough! Uh, for my feeder, not me. :c)
We are getting the head this week now! Ugg, Love your grosbeak shot!
I can’t believe how hot it’s been out there, and now it’s here, too, not *as* hot, but still hot and humid enough. Hope you stay cool in the AC.
Cat:
“Be gone, pitiful, weak humans. I am blowing you up in my mind…”
Heat. UG.
