Home again, Home again

6 Aug

We’re home after a long, hot weekend camping [More on our FMC Blog]. Oh, don’t get me wrong, we had a great time. Still, my overwhelming memory is of being miserable in the 100+ degree weather. I don’t do heat well — I get whiney and complainy and grumpy and . . . need I say more. But, good friends and good food go a long way to making things lots better.

FMC at Lake Tulloch Campground

We went rafting on the Stanislaus river on Friday. That was way more fun than I anticipated. A lazy raft trip down a Class 1 river — delightful. The kids loved it too. I saw several Osprey and some Kingfishers. I did not bring my camera — even though I had ordered a waterproof housing for it — it didn’t arrive in time and then the one that did arrive wasn’t the right size — oh well! We had a blast — loads of fun! We even managed to not get sunburned which was good. We arrived back at camp utterly exhausted. We made amazingly good carne asada burritos for dinner — I just ate the meat by itself. When I’m overheated, I can’t eat but I knew I needed protein.

Saturday, we rented party boats and cruised around on Lake Tulloch all day. All day. I tried to keep us sunblocked and in the shade and for the most part I managed just fine. Forgot to do my back enough though — damn. Totally sunburned. Amazingly painful — rats! We’d boat around — way cooler on the lake than up at the campsite — and then stop, drop anchor and swim. Wonderful. We’d boat around some more and stop and swim some more. I saw Ospreys, Great Blue Herons, Common Egrets, Kingfishers, Acorn Woodpeckers, and Turkey Vultures. Again, I didn’t have my camera — damn. The shots I COULD have taken of Ospreys. Sigh.

Sunday, we handed my children off to my mother for a week. They’ll be up in the Eastern Sierra in June Lake and Carson City having a good old time hiking, exploring, and being away from Mom and Dad.

As for me, I am enjoying a quiet and peaceful evening. No kids, no husband, and even the dog is leaving me alone. Bliss! My plans for the week are to get started with my new job and to buy a new-to-me car. Wheeeee!

Sounds like a great, but HOT week. I don’t do heat well either. Even without the pics, I can imagine how grand the ospreys looked against that cloudless blue sky.

Did I miss the news on the new job? I’ll have to go beack and check your last posts…
I don’t do heat well either. I just wilt. Still, it sounds like a fun time camping. Enjoy your solitude!
