Ruby Tuesday

Whatchya doin' up there, Mom?

Whatchya doin’ up there, Mom?

Ruby is a focused and determined dog. Very little slows her down.  She is not the type of dog to question her abilities.  So, when I started up the ladder after my husband this weekend, I looked back to see what Ruby was thinking about this endeavor.  She was thinking, “Hmmm, I’d better join them!”  She only made it up one more rung before she decided not to continue.

There were a couple of reasons why we didn’t encourage her new ladder climbing skillz.  The first being that she is a Very Little Dog and that is a Very Big Drop.  Those are two phenomena that I don’t care to have meet.  Secondly, the roof is the main escape route from squirrels who are running away from Ruby.  If she knew how to climb the ladder, it wouldn’t take her long to put two and two together and she’d be on the roof giving chase.  Squirrels, however, can leap from a roof and land on a floppy treebranch or on a telephone cable and continue on their merry way.  Ruby . . . not so much.  Do you think she’d give that much thought?  No, I don’t either and I don’t care to have her experience the Wyle E. Coyote moment when he realizes that there is nothing under him but air.  Refer back to Very Little Dogs and Very Big Drops and the whole never the twain shall meet thing.

What a focused little dog she is.  Driven, determined, and smart.  She’s agile enough to climb the ladder.  Hmmm, I think we’d better put that ladder away for a couple of weeks.  Maybe she’ll forget that we got up on the roof that way.  Maybe the ladder had better stay put away . . . I don’t see her forgetting much of anything.

What a smart girl Ms Ruby is… indeed, it’s best she does not learn “she can climb” that ladder!

LOL, I am not sure if even a few week will work! Once they are brave enough to do something, they never forget!

I think you should put the ladder away, too. She’s too smart and determined. I would hate to think she’s be on the rooftop looking down at you.

What a cool, determined dog she is! She didn’t like being left out of the “fun!”
