Weekend Update

30 Sep

Front seat on Runaway Reptar!

We went to Great America this weekend — it’s a big amusement park about 45 minutes away from our house.  We have gotten season passes the last two years.  The first year, we used them a lot — mostly because it has a great water park and season pass holders can rent cabanas for the day to hang out in comfort and style.  Totally awesome way to spend the day with kids on a hot, hot summer day.  This year, however, with my work and Greg’s father dying, we never used them.  The park closes at the end of October so we wanted to at least get ONE trip in to make it somewhat worthwhile.  It was a perfect day for it — high of 70 degrees, crystal clear skies, fantastic.  The water park is closed now but we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the park.  The kids went on a lot of rides and loved it.  Some of them, they can go on alone like this little roller coaster.  They did it 3 times in a row as the lines were very small.

Black Phoebe

I even got a little bird watching in.  I saw this lovely Black Phoebe as well as 3 Red-tailed Hawks, a couple of Turkey Vultures, 3 hummingbirds, and a seagull or two.

I’ve never seen a black phoebe either. I love how you captured the gleam in it’s eye. Your kids have quite a gleam in their eyes too!
