Blog Action Day — The Environment

15 Oct

I feel like celebrating! Governor Schwarzenegger came through for the California Condor! I heard about it at The Birdchaser! I actually voted for the Governator and I’m generally proud of that fact — our state needed a change and the Democratic contender was not someone I could support. I won’t say that I wholeheartedly support our esteemed Governor but generally, I’m okay with the decision I made to support him.

Right now, however, I’m thrilled. Our state has worked hard to return the Condor to the wild and seeing that hard work undermined by the fact that we haven’t solved the problem that put them in trouble to begin with is pretty — well — stupid. So, I’m very, very glad that something has been done about it.

I live fairly close to Big Sur and I have a dream of seeing one of these majestic birds soaring over the coast sometime. It’s looking more likely now. Thanks to the hard work of a lot of environmentalists and one signature of our Governor.

Environmentalism is essential. Discuss amongst yourselves . . .

I went to the Monterrey Bay Birding Fest last Sept. and they had a trip down the coast to see the Condors. It was totally awesome. Standing on the cliff overlooking the ocean, they were flying by at eye level. Ya gotta go here.
