Oh my… I am struck by just how much more “grown up” she looks in this photo. Pierced ears are certainly a rite of passage.

My older sister took me to have mine done for my fourteenth birthday, which was rather special. I’ve always been quite squeamish, and this was before the quick piercing guns, so I went a bit wobbly, and she took me into a bakers and bought me a doughnut! The warmth of the shop and the sugar brought me round quickly. This little girl looks very pretty and grown-up, congratulations to her!

(I’ve come here again this time following Crafty Green Poet’s award links.)

    Such a lovely young woman.
And what memories it brings back.
My daughter began lobbying (that’s what it was!) for pierced ears when she was about 8. I kept saying–no, not until you are old enough to care for them yourself.
Well, when would that be–she asked.
Oh, maybe when you are 16.
When she turned 16, she had lost interest.
She finally got them pierced when she was really all grown up–about 24! And I certainly didn’t have to care for them.

I was just about that age when I got my ears pierced too. I remember being so proud. It was definitely a rite of passage. Ruthie looks beautiful.
