Happy December!

1 Dec

December arriveth.  It is chilly here this morning . . . under 40F.  I’m sure my friends in Eastern and Northern climes chuckle at that but for us, that’s chilly.  I started a fire this morning before I made my mocha.  Yesterday, we got our Christmas tree.  It will get set up slowly over this week (which is a wishful way of saying next weekend!).  But most importantly of all, November is over.  I don’t dislike November but if you’ll recall waaaaaay back on November 1st, I announced that I was doing National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).  I knew then that I wouldn’t finish a 50,000 word novel which is the goal of participants in NaNoWriMo, rough draft only, of course.  But, I hoped it would inspire me to do more than I’d ever done before and . . . it did.

NaNoWriMo Final Word Count for Liza

NaNoWriMo Final Word Count for Liza

wordcountYou can look over my month and see when I was busiest.  You can pretty much track the weekends. But you can also see that I made steady if slow progress and then yesterday, on Sunday, I took myself in hand and issued a real challenge.  I wanted to be sure I finished about 25,000 words (half of the original goal). I knuckled in on my couch and got to work.  I wrote and wrote and wrote.  And, accomplished more in that day than in any other.  By 11:35pm, I crossed the 30,000 mark and felt I’d done enough.

You see I also cleaned my kitchen, including scrubbing down the cooktop and washing all the bits and pieces for it.  I tidied up the living room and helped Greg move furniture so he can extend the bamboo flooring down the hallway, I placed the last of the orders for our Christmas shopping, and I went with my family to get our Christmas tree and have dinner at my mother-in-law’s house.

My real goal was to see if I could incorporate writing into my life in away that allowed me to be successful at writing while still being a productive member of both my family and society at large.  And, I think that is the real reason that I feel like a winner.  Yay me!

If you are interested in learning more about this process and reading what I wrote, you can go to the blog I set up for keeping track of it:  This Writer’s Life.  Enjoy and thanks for the support!

30,000 words is quite an accomplishment. 40 degrees!!! Wow. That’s cold for our neck of the woods.
