Seen at Disneyland within 5 feet of a busy path.  I wonder how many people thought he was animatronic?  🙂

Maybe it is animatronic? Did you check? LOL.

Nice to see some ‘actual’ wildlife in Disneyland, and not just from Lion King and stuff.

Two years ago, I saw a Wood Duck in the middle of the park. Amazing! It shook it’s head for us in a most un-animatronic way so I’m sure! 🙂 Still, mostly it’s House Sparrows and Seagulls!

Gorgeous photo!! Hope you are having a great time, hangin’ with Mickie. Too bad the princesses aren’t birders then every little girl would be too.

I am sure everyone who walked past it just assumed…lol!

Are you sure this was not just another Disney character? Well spotted.

Great capture of the Black-crowned Night Heron Liza! They are rather animatronic type birds although on a trip to a wildlife refuge several weeks ago we saw flocks of Black-crowned Night Herons flying from tree to tree and having a great time. Previously I had only seen them roosting or fairly motionless on the banks.

I’m always amazed at how much bird life is there! It’s a great shot, Liza. I hope you’re enjoying the sun and the time off.

I am always jealous of your bird pictures. WHY DO THEY POSE FOR YOU??

What great luck, and what a nice shot. I’m glad of the ID from Larry, too, as I wasn’t sure. I don’t think we get them in Minnesota!

      Hi Penelope,

Thanks for visiting my blog! You do get Black-Crowned Night Herons in Minnesota . . . during the summer. Take a look here All About Birds: Black-crowned Night Herons.

You’re so right – I was misled by the fact that in the Sibley guide they are listed under “night herons,” not “herons!” I did think it was surprising they weren’t listed in the eastern book… now I see why! My husband now tells me he and his ex could see one whenever they wanted at a certain spot in the heart of Minneapolis…

Hope you get to see one soon! They are really cool birds, secretive and silent.

Saw this bird yesterday at Disneyland too. He has been there our last 2 visits and very cool to watch. Just before the entrance to Frontierland, he has been both on the rock and sleeping in the tree. Very pretty and doesn’t move much, but jumped at water for small fish.
