Endings are the new beginnings . . .

Ruth and Ms Chappell

Thursday, my daughter finished her elementary school career.  If I may be allowed a moment of indulgence, she was on Honor Roll every trimester during 4th and 5th grades (when we give letter grades at our school).  She is a well-rounded, well-liked, sweet, creative, loving girl.  I couldn’t be prouder of her.

Ruthie in Kindergarten

Especially since I can still remember where she started back in Mrs. Bruce’s kindergarten class.  Such a sweet, quirky little munchkin.

My heart bursts with pride!

And, now . . . middle school.  Bring it on!

Barely hanging on

Pygmy Nuthatch

So, it’s the end of the school year.  My class is doing a play with another class for the next two days.  My students have projects due.  I’m got a bazillion things to grade. We have a 4th Grade Bash (don’t even ask!).  Staff meetings.  Class party.  My daughter’s 5th Grade Advancement ceremony.   Oh, and I’ve got a freakin’ sinus infection.

Yea.  Life is great.   I think there is a decent chance that I will not be posting for a few days.

So, if I’m not back by the end of next week, send help.  Please.

Wherever you go, there you are

When I travel across the state and into another one, I sort of expect things to be different.  Traveling from 500 feet above sea level through 7300 feet above sea level to 4600 feet above sea level, I sort of expect things to be different.  And, many things are different.  I left the land of Redwood trees and coastal fog and ended up in high desert and nightly thunderstorms.  But many things are the same.  One of those sameness are Western Scrub Jays making noise in the tree tops.  And robins.  And California Quail.  And House Finches.  And . . . well, you get the idea.
