Upgraded . . .

Delicate blossoms

I have a new toy. My loving husband got me a new camera . . . well, new to me.  Gotta love Craig’s List.  I have loved my old camera.  It was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FM7.   It took some amazing photographs . . . and, honestly, I think it took the shots.  I just pointed and it did the rest.

I did some research on my upgrade camera.  It definitely needed to have the ability to change lenses.  It definitely needed a big ol’ screen on the back.  It definitely needed to have great automatic features.  It definitely had to be a few years old so I could afford it.

I settled on the Canon Rebel XSI.  It was new in 2008.  It has everything I wanted.  It is even super complicated and slightly intimidating.  I LOVE it!  I searched for a few days and found it.  I picked it up last night.

Why does buying something from Craig’s List make me feel as though I’m doing some sort of illicit deal.  I’ll meet you at the place (it’s always a Starbucks).  You bring the camera.  I’ll bring the cash.  I’ll be wearing a red rose behind my right ear.  The code phrase is, “It only rains on Sundays.”

Anyway, this is the first REAL picture I took with it.  I’m pretty pleased with it. I’ve got a lot of work to do learning to use it . . . even on auto-everything mode.  But, what a great challenge.

My husband tells me that I can’t sleep with it at night and that I really need to stop petting it and calling it “my precious.”

Whatever.

LOL’ed all the way through your post.

In NYC, we meet by the Grand Central Station clock, because everyone has “their” Starbucks and no one wants to go to the wrong one.

Sleeping with the camera must be a meme now, because other friends were just talking about this the other evening.

Glad you’re happy with your new toy, though not sure why you defected to Canon, LOL — I was torn between an XSI and my choice and, after much waffling, went with the DMC-FZ35. 🙂

Have to admit, though – that’s a stunning photo. Got some EXIF data for us for that one?

    Congratulations!

Thanks, M. Always glad to make people laugh. I’m now picturing a whole buncha people meeting at 7pm at the same place. In NYC, there could be 5 different Canon Rebel XSI sales going on at once. You might buy from the wrong person . . . oh well, as long as everyone goes home happy. 😀

My EXIF data is always available on Flickr. Here’s the link for this picture. I did play with it a little bit in iPhoto — not much though.

I really did think about the Panasonic but I had to buy one used and I was not seeing many Panasonic Lumixes on Craig’s List. Also, I know there are LOTS of lens options for the Rebel and I know you can get an adaptor for digiscoping. So, there ya go.

Cool Liza, it sounds very intimidating, if you would please, go take some pics of Viggo with Renee and Jack, have fun, your photo above is gorgeous.

Thanks, Nancy. Greg took Ruby and the kids over to meet Viggo the other day. Renee and Jack sent some pictures. I’ll forward them to you.

Thanks! Hopefully, it will inspire me to take lots of shots and may write some poems to go with them. 😀

I have a Canon Rebel, and I love it. I think you are a much better photographer than I am, so I predict lots more amazing pictures over here.

Thanks, Miz S. I really think it’s mostly the camera so maybe my picture quality will go down now that I have a new camera. Come to think of it, it will anyway given the learning curve I’m bound to experience. Anyway, I’m very glad to keep hearing from people how much they love their Rebels. Makes me feel safe!!!
