OMG. This is so cute. The artist, Daphne of lacravatteduchien, is in Greece. All her art is spectacular. Lovely color. Lovely designs. I absolutely adore this owl and her other birds. And, oh my goodness, the hedgehogs make me squeeee! with joy!
Perfect Last Minute Homemade Birdie Gifties
22 Dec Lisa Rupp, a wonderful artist, drew these lovely little birdies (there’s a cardinal, too!) and thought she’d share them. Her blog is That’s Happy and these make me happy. Download the JPG, print it out on nice paper, a little string or ribbon and voila! Instant gifties. Lovely.
There are also generous artists donating free gift tags to be printed out. There is a great list at Bella Dia.
What about free printable gift wrap? Creature Comforts has a cute paper and tag set that’s holiday appropriate AND bird inspired. Perfect!
Enjoy, maybe this will help with the last minute rush!
Amazing Birdie Giftie Thingies
6 DecI haven’t shared any birdie finds from Etsy in a while but there are some phenomenal birdie giftie things.
There were billions more! I love Etsy for it’s amazing choice in handmade (and vintage) goods. Searching for birdie items can help you find that one of a kind gift your favorite birder would love this Christmas! Enjoy! No, no, THIS is my new most favorite bird artist ever!
3 SepFriends (oh GOD, I’m so in teacher mode right now!!!), Friends, let me tell you why I love the Internet so much. Why I love blogging and twittering and why I love the people that I have met this way.
I have shared Gabi Reith’s work before in her fonts of birds and feathers that was made available on the typeface-a-week blog page. Gabi and Phillip were so pleased that I was so pleased that they sent me a thank you gift. Such a gesture is completely unnecessary but awfully delightful.
Even more delightful when I opened the package from Scotland and saw the treasures inside.
Here is a website dedicated to this series of work by Gabi Reith. Unfortunately, it seems that Gabi’s Etsy shop is empty right now. I can only assume that she’s working on her next amazing series of artwork.
These cards and the tea towel (which evidently I’m the only American to own!!!) are whimsical and elegant all at once. I just love them. And, so appreciate Gabi and Phillip’s thoughtfulness!
That utterly gorgeous tea towel is going to grace my classroom walls before too long. It is so lovely! And, the cards, I want to frame each one. Thankfully, they sent two of each so I can save one and use one.
So, why do I love the Internet? It alllows me to make connections that span continents, cultures, and connect artists in Scotland with teachers in California. And, then swings out again to include each of you. People used to say that the Internet was a cold form of communication and would lead to a world full of plugged in people who never really connected. I’m so glad we know now that the warmth of human connection is strong enough to cross through screens and wires and ethernet and even leap through wireless empty space and bring people together.
Newest Most Favoritest Bird Artist Evah!
11 JulSo, Dazychic, another amazing Etsy artist, is my new most favoritest evah bird artist. You have to love this delightful, quirky, happy, and fun approach to life. I would LOVE to get this poster for my classroom. Don’t you think 4th graders could stand to look at a message like this everyday? I know I could! So, go visit and go buy and support our economic recovery directly! It’s a good thing! (Hmmmm, where have I heard that before?)
I AM A WINNER!
7 JulAnd, you could be too. There is a beautiful blog called The Ardent Sparrow run by Rebecca Wagler. She is giving away gift certificates to stores in Etsy. And, yesterday, I won!
Turns out Rebecca and I have a lot in common. We are both teachers. We both have daughters. And, we both — get ready — have dog’s named Ruby Tuesday! Woot!
So, go check out her site and enter her blog! It’s easy! It’s fun! And, you could be a WINNER! (Like me!)
And, for goodness sake, go visit her Etsy store — she’s got some gorgeous jewelry! You might also visit the stores that I won certificates too — Mirieo and Nothing Elegant!

23 MayMelody Lea Lamb is it. What is cuter than cute little critters done in a teensy-weensy format? Nothing, that’s what. This stuff is the cutest! Check out the bird section . . . I defy you to avoid buying. It’s cute. Really cute. And, it’s inexpesive and nothing – but – nothing is cuter than inexpensive cute little critters done in a teensy-weensy format!
My new most very favorite bird artist
2 MayAs a writer and a teacher and a poet, I really like letters. As a birder, I really like birds. As an artist, I really l like . . . well . . . art.
So, is it any surprise that I’m loving this artist, paulabirdy? All three things . . . in one really wonderful art.
And, hello, at $2.00 each for a 4×6 print, I don’t know how you can NOT buy this stuff. So amazingly cute and a great deal. Paulabirdy is amazing. I’m thinking I’ll buy!
Oh, and how did I find this amazing new artist? My good friend, Wende, and her wonderful Best of Etsy weekly roundup of amazing Etsy products. You can get her weekly roundup on Twitter.
My newest best ever most favorite bird artist
28 MarMireio is another fantastic shop on Etsy. The added benefit is that she is also my friend, Wende. You’ll see her comment here and you can read her thoughtful blog, Evidently. It’s a good one! She only has the occasional bird-inspired piece but when she does, they are lovely. Go and visit and buy! Supporting local artists is such a good thing to do!
My next new most favoritest ever bird artist
21 MarIsn’t this guy wonderful? Don’t you NEED him in your kitchen? He comes in a variety of colors and just dazzles me. The artist, Ooladesigns, has another variety of tea towels that are equally fun but not nearly so wonderfully birdy! Seriously, $9 to make you smile everytime you dry dishes. That is so worth it and I haven’t even mentioned the dangly-ball fringe!
